See the Best of the Eternal City in One Day!

Our tour of Rome and Vatican City is tailored specifically to meet the needs of our cruise clients.  The greatest challenge faced by visitors taking a day excursion to Rome is trying to see a three-thousand-year-old city in just one day.  Our tour is designed to showcase the city’s most majestic, legendary sights to people who are operating within a limited time frame.

Our tour begins at the most infamous amphitheater in the world, the Colosseum.  Standing nearby, our tour guide gives a brief presentation on the building’s history, and you have the option of exploring the inside of the building on your own (reservation required).  We then proceed to take a stroll through Ancient Rome on Via Fori Imperiali, along the Roman Forum, the Markets of Trajen, and Piazza Venezia.

Following our walk to the Pantheon, where you’ll be given the opportunity to explore a two-thousand-year-old temple in pristine condition.  Next, we pay a visit to two more hallmarks of the Baroque era.  You’ll toss a coin in the Trevi, the most extravagant fountain in Italy, and you’ll have the chance to climb the biggest staircase in Europe, the Spanish Steps.  Of course, if you’d rather just appreciate it from the ground, we’ll understand.

After lunch, we head across town by bus or metro to the smallest, yet most remarkable country in the world, Vatican City.  Skipping the hour-long line, we enter the museum and embark on The Path to the Sistine Chapel.  Along the way to our destination, we’ll pass the countless works of art that have been collected and commissioned by the popes over the centuries, spanning from the BC era (The Belvedere Torso) to the twentieth century (Pomodoro’s Sphere Within a Sphere).  Finally we arrive at the Sistine Chapel, where you’ll be given a pause to marvel at Michelangelo’s fresco, the definitive high-point of the Renaissance, and arguably the most iconic image of all time.

We exist the Sistine Chapel through a passageway reserved for tour guides, which will lead us to St. Peter’s Basilica, the final stop of the day.  After a brief talk about the building’s history, you’ll be given time to wander through the biggest church in the world, and take in over a hundred years’ work of the greatest artists of the sixteenth century.

The tour concludes at 4:00 pm.  You’ll be escorted to St. Peter’s Station, and boarded onto a train back to Civitavecchia.  You’ll arrive back in time for your ship departure, with our staff accompanying you all the way.
